This emotive child portrait was conceived as a result of a terrible tragedy. The two year old had choked to death on a pip. Her mother, Shirley Eskapa, commissioned Herman Wald to create this portrait head of the child based on photographs to be cast in bronze for her grave stone. Herman Wald represented the baby in advance of her years. Her parted lips tell of childhood innocence, whilst her knowing eyes with expressive pupils, reveal the tragedy of her fate.
