Embrace 3 shows the softly-rounded forms of man and woman united, encompassing the affection and companionship between the sexes. The upright figures, composed within geometrical lines, fuse in a tight embrace. This work was conceived on the artist’s honeymoon with his wife in Gonubie in the Eastern Cape. There he fashioned a small-scale clay model of this work which he later re-modelled to its full size. Many years later the Walds revisited Gonubie with two of their children and decided to have it cast in bronze.
