This is the third of the trio of abstract sculptures, the other two being La Femme (1969) referring to sex, and Hunger (1968) which Herman Wald regarded as the basic driving forces of the human race. Herman Wald was a fervent pacifist and his abhorrence and fear of war and nuclear catastrophe are intrinsic to his oeuvre. Yet at the end of his life and with this work he acknowledged that within the psyche of the human race the urge to conquer is inevitable.
