Herman Wald worked on this Eastern European genre group at times  when he needed to recall memories of his childhood. Two bearded Jews in indistinct garments are enjoying the aroma of a little snuff, lost in a moment of happy abandon. Probably a familiar scene in the streets of the Jewish quarter of Cluj, this group captures with tender humour a moment in time from a lost world.
